Welsh Producers Are "Naturals" For Organic Show

Full article

Organic producers from across Wales are preparing for the sector’s largest UK trade event - Natural & Organic Products Europe 2008 which opens in London next week (13/14 April).

Six companies will be exhibiting at the event at the Olympia exhibition centre under the auspices of the Welsh Assembly Government’s True Taste banner, several of them True Taste Award winners.

Now it is 12th year it is the largest trade event of its kind in the UK and continues to go from strength to strength and is the UK’s leading annual exhibition event for the whole of the natural and organic sector.

Hot off the press at the show will be a new range of pies from Corwen based Rhug Estate.
The 320g pies, which are pending Soil Association approval, will be launched at the show and are aimed at the retail and food service sectors.
Made from the Rhug Estate’s own traditionally hung organic Aberdeen Angus beef the pies are available in four varieties: Steak and Stout, Steak, Mushroom and Red Wine, Steak and Stilton, and Steak with Wholegrain Mustard.

New packaging inspired by its natural surroundings will be revealed by Britain’s only dedicated organic production smokehouse - The Organic Smokehouse.
The Powys company’s new look features images such as oak leaves and sawn wood to convey the natural qualities of its smoked products which include, salmon, cheese, butter, salt, olive oil, and salmon mousse.

Trioni Ltd will be spreading some of its ‘goodness’ at Natural and Organic Products Europe with its Daioni flavoured organic milk.
The milk drinks are supplied to Chelsea Football Club whose Stamford Bridge home will host the Natural and Organic Awards on the Sunday evening of the show (April 13).
The award-winning Pembrokeshire company’s drinks are low in fat with no artificial colours or preservatives.
The drinks are available in four flavours - chocolate, (which won the national' Excellence in Food and Drinks' award in November), strawberry, banana, and cranberry & raspberry.
Farmhouse Freedom Eggs Ltd will be launching its Soil Association approved liquid organic pasteurised egg in 1 kilo cartons for the catering sector. The packs will be available as whole egg and as 1 kilo cartons of yolk and egg white.
The Monmouthshire company, which sources its eggs from small flocks of hens kept on family run farms with high welfare standards, will also be displaying its organic shell eggs on trays for catering as well as pre-packed for the retail sector.
A range of additional organic egg products will be on show including mayonnaise - for both catering and retail - and egg mayonnaise sandwich filling.
Artisan Powys flour producer Bacheldre Watermill will be showing its new flour in an original smoked flavour.
The Oak Smoked Stoneground Organic Strong Malted Blend Flour is ideal for bread machines and hand-baking, producing a delicious loaf with a sweet wood-smoked aroma that is reminiscent of bread baked in a wood-fired oven.
To achieve the natural smoky flavour, the malted wheat flakes from the mill are cold smoked over oak chippings from the Welsh Marches at The Organic Smokehouse to create a premium traditionally stoneground flour.
The flour is individually packed and stitched in fully sustainable, biodegradable and home compostable packaging. Adding the finishing green touch, the eco-friendly company has also just introduced fully compostable labels.

Carmarthenshire based Sanclêr Organic Yoghurt Cheese will be exhibiting its range at the event.
The company uses milk from the farm’s own herd of organic pedigree Meuse- Rhine-Issels to make its probiotic organic yoghurt cheese which is based on a traditional dairy product from the Middle East. The yoghurt cheese is available in three varieties - natural, basil and garlic, and with chives, and is suitable for vegetarians.
Sanclêr will also be taking along two products for sampling - an orange and honey dessert, and a mint and dill dip.
