Award Winning Patisserie Moves Home

Full article

A North Wales husband and wife team, who have been baking award winning cakes and desserts from their home in Mold for the last five years, are to move into new commercial premises in Flint in May.

Anne’s Patisserie, run by Anne and James Elwood from the kitchen of their semi-detached home, has been so successful that the couple have taken a five year lease on a unit at Manor Industrial Estate, Flint.

The move involves an investment of £56,000 with Anne and James putting up £40,000 of that from their own money. The balance comes from a Welsh Assembly Government’s  Investment Grant.

A new delivery driver and kitchen assistant will be taken on immediately while it is hoped to employ a full-time pastry chef in the near future.

Production of a mouth-watering range of cakes, desserts and hand-made chocolates will be stepped up. The company already supplies many of the top restaurants and hotels in North Wales, plus a small delicatessen in Mold. The plan is now to increase the number of retail outlets via specialist delis and farm shops.

Last November Anne’s Patisserie was highly commended in the prestigious True Taste Awards for their baked white chocolate, orange and cranberry cheesecake and their baked hazelnut and butterscotch fudge cheesecake.

Said Anne: “In recent years the business has really grown and we could no longer cope with production at home. We aim to provide a personalised service using only the best ingredients. While we mainly supply the catering trade we have a growing business in the making of special cakes for weddings and celebrations, which is why we want to increase our retail presence.”

Everything is made to order and wherever possible from locally sourced ingredients. The range of hand-crafted desserts include classics such as cherry Bakewells and traditional custard tarts as well as a range of baked savoury cheesecakes, such as wild mushroom flavoured with tarragon, and individually baked puddings, such as dark chocolate fondants.

Said James: “We have developed an exciting range of desserts and savoury products that deliver great taste and value for money. The new premises will enable us to produce even more mouth-watering products for a wider audience.”
