Small is Beautiful at Real Food Festival

Food and drink producers from across Wales will be heading for the Real Food Festival - billed as the biggest farmers market ever ( April 24-27).

Held at the Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre in London, the inaugural event will feature more than 500 of the best small food and drink producers from across the world, and is targeted at both consumer and trade visitors.

The event aims to be a showcase for smaller and artisan food and drink producers, giving them an important opportunity to show their products to a wider audience.

A number of Welsh producers will be exhibiting at the event under the auspices of the Welsh Assembly Government’s True Taste brand, many of them True Taste Award winners:

Penlon Cottage Brewery, Condessa Welsh Liqueurs, The Patchwork Traditional Food Company, Cwm Deri Vineyard, Martin’s Jerked Meat, Elan Valley Mutton, Made in Monmouthshire, Caws Teifi Cheese, Castle Chocolates, Wendy Brandon Preserves, Bacheldre Watermill, Halen Môn/The Anglesey Sea Salt Company, Merlin Cheeses, Cheeses from Wales.

Made in Monmouthshire will be featuring three producers on its stand: Wigmore Bakery, Wye Valley Apiaries, and Kingstone Brewery. Made in Monmouthshire - which is the local produce marketing wing of the Adventa Leader + programme in Monmouthshire will also be showing products from Pava Farm Vineyard and apple juice from Springfield Ciders.

Castle Chocolates will be taking its range of handmade chocolates and its new champagne and Bailey’s truffles.

Penlon Cottage Brewery will have its range of beers. Their beers range from light ales and lager to dark ales and fruit beers and are between 3.2% and 5.6% ABV.

A new box set of liqueurs including handmade truffles will be available from Condessa Welsh Liqueurs, as will the company’s range of liqueurs.

Smoked mutton will be on offer for the first time from Elan Valley Mutton which will be launching the meat at the Real Food Festival. Also available will be the company’s range of cuts of raw mutton.

Halen Môn/The Anglesey Sea Salt Company’s will be showing its range including the new organic celery salt and company’s new 10g tubes of Halen Môn vanilla, organic spiced, oak smoked, pure and organic celery salts.

A selection of marmalades, jams, jellies, chutneys and fruit vinegars will be on offer from Wendy Brandon Preserves.

Teifi Farmhouse Cheese’s award-winning range of cheese will be available at the event including Celtic Promise, Saval, and Caws Teifi.

While Cwm Deri Vineyard will betaking its traditional range of fruit wines and liqueurs.

Artisan millers, Bacheldre Watermill will be showcasing its new Oak Smoked Stoneground Organic Strong Malted Blend Flour, along with its range of organic flours.

Merlin Cheeses will be taking along a limited edition Caerphilly cheese to the Festival along with 22 varieties of the company’s goat’s cheese - either as whole cheeses or as a ‘pick and mix’.  The range includes smoked, garlic and chive, pear and cinnamon, and sun dried tomato, and various fruit varieties.

New from Martin’s Jerked Meat will be a 100% Welsh jerky - Dragon’s Breath. Made from Welsh Beef, Welsh chilli’s and Welsh soy sauce, the jerky will be on sale along with a variety of the company’s additive and preservative free meat and meat-free jerky and healthy snacks.

The Patchwork Traditional Food Company will be taking a selection or organic pâté along including its new three game pâté which is made from partridge, quail and pheasant and laced with brandy.

Cheeses From Wales will be representing all 12 of the cheese makers’ co-operative’s members with cheeses available to buy from seven of the smaller producers: Blaenafon Cheddar Company, Caerfai Organic, Caws Cenarth, Llanboidy Cheesemakers, Merlin Cheeses, Pant Mawr Farmhouse Cheese and Sanclêr Organic Yoghurt Cheese.

Also exhibiting at the Festival will be Princes Gate Spring Water and Trealy Farm Charcuterie, and OrganicWhisky.com.

In addition tastings will be held on the True Taste stand by Howel Food Consultancy featuring a wide range of Welsh produce*.
