Already used by many of the UK’s top chefs and restaurants, Bacheldre Watermill’s organic flours are to go on sale in one of Russia’s flag-ship stores in time for Easter.
The artisan flours made by award-winning Powys millers Matt and Anne Scott at their ancient mill near Montgomery will soon be available in Moscow through Globus Gourmet. Voted by The Grocer magazine as the 12th best store in the world, Globus Gourmet has ten outlets across the city.
“Apart from Ireland, this is the first time we have exported, and the order came direct from Globus Gourmet who had seen our flour in Harrods,” said Matt Scott, “They will be taking eight of our flours which should be there in time for Easter.”
Also, following the International Food Exhibition (IFE), which was held earlier this month in London, the couple’s flours are set to be exported to the Seychelles along with the possibility of orders from Scandinavia and Dubai. Discussions are also being held with distributors in Paris and Singapore.
Said Matt, “It is a very busy time for us, we are going through a massive growth stage and we are planning for the future of the business and the brand.”
Traditional water and electrically operated equipment and only the highest quality organic grain and seeds are used to produce 13 different flours, which are Soil Association approved.
Both Anne and Matt used to work for the Royal Mail, and only turned their hands to milling four years ago.
Since then Bacheldre Watermill flours have received numerous awards, among them a host of True Taste Awards - including a recent gold award for their innovative packaging featuring a series of celebrity chef endorsed recipe cards, and a silver award for their ‘Malted 5 Seed Flour'.
“Through winning a True Taste award we have benefited from excellent marketing of our products and the Welsh Assembly Government’s Food and Market Development Division have been a great support which has helped make our business a success,” said Matt.
