Food and drink producers from Wales are looking to meet potential new export customers at the Alimentaria International food and drink exhibition in Barcelona (10-14 March).

Ten Welsh companies will be exhibiting at the event under the Welsh Assembly Government’s International Business Wales and True Taste banner.

Alimentaria is Spain’s biggest and most important event of its kind, and in 2006 attracted 150,000 visitors of which 32,892 came from outside Spain making it one of the leading shows for the Southern European market.

As the third largest export market for British food and drink products - the UK shares 7% of Spain’s total £13 billion food and drink imports - there is huge potential for UK food and drink products in both mainstream and tourism markets in most product areas including ready meals, biscuits, frozen foods, beer, ethnic food, cheeses, spirits, cereals, tea and confectionery products.

Spain is also the world’s second largest market for UK ex-pats with an estimated 800,000 British citizen now permanently based in the country.
