Anglesey Sea Salt Tastes Sweet Success State-side

Full article

Award-winning sea salt from Wales is getting its just desserts on the menu at one of New York’s top restaurants, Gordon Ramsay at The London.

Smoked salt produced by The Anglesey Sea Salt Company / Halen Môn is one of the ingredients in a new dessert produced by the two Michelin-starred restaurant.

Halen Môn director Alison Lea-Wilson said, “We are delighted our salt is being used by Gordon Ramsay at The London in such an innovative way.”

Said Josh Emett, chef de cuisine of Gordon Ramsay at The London,
“We are using Halen Môn smoked salt in a new dessert - Chocolate crèmeux with salted caramel ice cream, lychee granité  - and it’s fantastic.

Halen Môn’s inclusion on the menu is the result of a lunch held in February at Gordon Ramsay at The London for New York media hosted by the Welsh Assembly Government, Visit Wales and Welsh Rarebits as part of Wales Week USA.

Currently celebrating its tenth anniversary, the True Taste award-winning company’s range of sea salt and natural seasonings is used by top chefs and restaurants across the world.

Said Alison, “In particular we know chefs adore the caramelised taste of our Welsh oak smoked Halen Môn. It enhances other tastes and textures in desserts, and has been described by one of our customers 'like fireworks going off in your mouth'.

Last year Halen Môn’s sea salt was named as one of the world’s top five gastronomic products by a global congress of chefs at the legendary Feria de Gastronomía in San Sebastian.

Said Alison, “Over the years we have had tremendous help and advice from the Welsh Assembly Government and have taken part in a number of overseas events organised by International Business Wales (IBW) which have certainly helped raise our international profile and grow our export sales.

“We have just returned from a very successful visit to Singapore and are looking forward to once again taking part in the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York (June 29 - July 1).”
