Local Welsh food producers are to have the opportunity to exhibit at one of the world’s most famous cultural events, the Hay Festival of Literature (May 22 - 1 June).
The group of small producers will be taking part in an exhibition on the festival site dedicated to climate change and the environment.
The exhibition is being hosted by the Gaia Partnership, an organisation which aims to “inspire individuals and business to adapt to climate change in a positive and enjoyable way, using insights from the new sciences and the creativity of the arts.”
The Welsh Assembly Government sponsored exhibition will feature a number of small local food producers and encourage people to consider their actions in an environmental and global context and to look at ‘the bigger picture’.
“Local sourcing is such a key part of climate change, not only does it support local farmers but reduces product miles,” said Elaine Brook, Director of Gaia Partnership.
A number of activities are planned around the exhibition including lectures, eco-awareness workshops and carbon-footprint games.
The Gaia exhibition also includes displays by the Centre for Alternative Technology, Graig Farm Organics, and Monmouth based charity Bees for Development Trust which raises money with the aim of alleviating poverty internationally by means of beekeeping.
