Welsh food and drink companies will be showcasing their products to an international audience in Hong Kong this week (May 13-16) at Asia’s leading trade and hospitality trade show, Hofex.
Held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, it is seen as the most effective trade platform for doing business in Asia, and in 2005 a record 28,604 trade visitors attended the biennial event.
Organised by International Business Wales on behalf of the Food and Market Development Division within the Welsh Assembly Government, four Welsh companies will be exhibiting under the True Taste banner: Trioni Ltd, The Goodcarb Food Company Ltd, The Anglesey Sea Salt Company, and Ty Nant Spring Water Ltd.
The Anglesey Sea Salt Co. / Cwmni Halen Môn will be exhibiting its range of sea salts and black pepper as well as laverbread. While in Hong Kong the company will be meeting with one of the region’s top chefs, Richard Ekkebus, of the prestigious Landmark Mandarin Oriental hotel, who already uses Anglesey Sea Salt.
The Goodcarb Food Company will be concentrating on its new snack products.
The Llanelli company make quality food products using natural ingredients which have a very small effect on blood sugar levels. All products are low GL 5.5, slow energy release, blood sugar friendly and wheat free.
Based on Granola the snacks come in three varieties - Belgian chocolate, Sicilian line and real ginger, and treacle and pecan nut.
Boncath based Trioni Ltd will be showing its popular Daioni range of branded flavoured Welsh organic milk. A new Cranberry & Raspberry flavour complements the existing traditional flavours of Chocolate, Strawberry, and Banana. The company will also be expand on links already made with retailers in the region.
Famed for its iconic blue and crimson bottles, Ty Nant Spring Water Ltd will be showing its range of still and sparkling mineral waters, including the curvaceous PET bottle. Also on display will be the chic and minimalist TAU spring water. Dressed in monochromatic livery TAU is also available in still and carbonated varieties.
Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales will also be promoting Welsh Lamb and at the event. A wide choice of cuts will be on display on the stand and HCC staff will be on hand to offer advice and to help potential future buyers, who will also be able to sample the delights of PGI Welsh Lamb.
Meanwhile visitors will have the opportunity to try a range of Welsh products during special tasting sessions throughout the event.
In addition to sampling products from exhibiting companies, visitors will also be able to taste products already available for purchase in Hong Kong from The Welsh Sausage Company, Rachels Organic, Edwards of Conwy, Wendy Brandon Preserves, Llanllyr Source Water. While food consultant Nerys Howell will be making Welsh cakes as part of the tasting sessions.
Also highlighted on the stand will be Wales as a tourist destination through Visit Wales, while 17 multi-sector Welsh businesses will be in Hong Kong the same week on a Welsh Assembly Government International Business Wales Trade Mission looking to develop new business in the area, among them Llanllyr Source Water.
