Anglesey Sea Salt Joins World Gastronomic Elite

Full article

Welsh sea salt company, Halen Môn has been named as one of the world’s top five gastronomic products by a global congress of chefs.

Each November, the city of San Sebastian in Spain’s Basque region holds the legendary Feria de Gastronomía.
Over three days a congress of some of the world’s most famous chefs compete for the prestigious awards which celebrate all things gastronomic.

Part of the Feria includes the selection of the five top products in the world judged to have significantly raised the quality of gastronomy. This year’s elite group were a chocolatier, a cheese maker, a rice grower, an oyster grower and Anglesey based Halen Môn’s crystal sea salt..

Said Halen Môn director Alison Lea-Wilson, ‘We are particularly delighted to have been recognised in this way as it underlines the respect the Spanish have for taking a basic ingredient like sea salt and making it into the very best in terms of flavour, purity and quality.”

Added Halen Môn’s co-founder David Lea-Wilson, “We are proud of our environment, staff, systems and quality approach to every thing we do at Halen Môn but we don’t often trumpet it.
“So to receive this top honour from Europe’s gastronomic congress is one with which we can all be delighted in an increasingly competitive market place where provenance, taste, delivery on time, and reputation are absolutely critical.”

Currently celebrating its tenth anniversary, the True Taste award-winning company’s range of salt and natural seasonings are used by top chefs and restaurants across the world.

Said Alison, “Over the years we have had tremendous help and advice from the Welsh Assembly Government and have taken part in a number of overseas events organised by International Business Wales (IBW) which have certainly helped raise our international profile and grow our export sales.
“For example last year we attended the Alimentaria international food show in Barcelona, and next March we will be revisiting the show through IBW as part of a group of ten Welsh exhibitors on the Wales the True Taste stand.”
