Welsh producers will be showcasing some of Wales’ best food and drink at a special consumer tasting event in Mid Wales on Saturday (December 1).

A wide variety of Welsh and local produce will be available including cheeses, meat, cakes, wine and beer.

Many of the companies taking part are award winners, including Plas Farm with its Bara Brith ice cream, and Blas ar Fwyd’s Lobsgows Eidion (Beef Lobscouse) and who were winners earlier this month at the True Taste Wales Food and Drink Awards 2007/08.

Also taking part are the Welsh Whiskey Company which makes a range of spirits including the famous Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky; Anglesey toffee vodka  producers Toffoc; Llanrwst baker Siwgr a Sbeis; and Ruthin-based pate producer The Patchwork Traditional Food Company.

Celebrity chef Melfyn Thomas will be doing a cookery demonstration at the event which runs from 11am to 1pm at the Spar store in Welshpool’s Church Street.

“We are proud to be able to give customers a chance to sample local and regional produce and to taste award-winning Welsh food and drink,” said Owen Davies, Spar’s regional manager.
